Molybdenum Sulfide Nanoparticles

Molybdenum sulfide nanoparticles have been produced by various methods and the challenge lies in creating stable nanoparticles from this material that show high catalytic activity and maintain their performance when handling heavy crude oils and bitumen. It was shown that there was a large effect of particle size on hydride sulfurization activity (HDS) with the smallest particles showing the highest sulfur conversion. Starch has been shown to be an effective coating that prevents agglomeration of particles once precipitated. CuS, CdS, CdSe and CdTe nanoparticles were prepared using starch as decoy; But to the best of our knowledge, there are no reports of the synthesis of MoS2 Nanoparticles with starch. Starch not only has different structural and physical-chemical properties compared to PVP that can lead to the formation of particles of different sizes and/or morphologies, but it is also cheaper (this is important in all industrial applications) and is obtained from plants. Which makes it organic. In this work, preparations of MoS2 Nanoparticles were made, which could be easily converted into MoS2 Nanoparticles with conditions similar to the treatment of heavy hydrocarbon fractions with mud technologies. The effect of starch on the production of said nanoparticles was investigated. The particles were converted to MoS2 Nanoparticles by heat treatment and tested in HDN (hydrodesulfurization / hydrodenitrogenation) of VGO (vacuum gas oil) as a model feedstock for industrial applications. In addition, the study of the redispersion of MoS2 Nanoparticles in bitumen was carried out and the improvement of bitumen with the redispersed particles was investigated.
