Hastelloy 188 Cobalt Based Alloy Spherical Powder
Applications
Aerospace and Gas Turbines
Jet Engines and Turbines: Hastelloy® 188 is widely used in aerospace applications, particularly in jet engines, turbine blades, and combustion chambers, where high temperatures and oxidation resistance are critical. The alloy’s high strength and thermal stability allow it to perform efficiently under extreme conditions.
Aerospace Components: The alloy is used in components such as heat shields, exhaust systems, and turbine discs, where high-velocity airflows and extreme thermal conditions are common.
Power Generation
Gas and Steam Turbines: Hastelloy® 188 is ideal for gas turbines and steam turbines in power plants. The alloy’s resistance to high-temperature oxidation and thermal fatigue make it perfect for rotor blades, heat exchangers, and combustion liners in both conventional and renewable energy power systems.
Superheaters and Reheaters: In nuclear power plants and coal-fired plants, Hastelloy® 188 is used for the construction of superheaters and reheaters. These components need to endure high temperatures and extreme pressure without degradation over time.
Chemical and Process Industries
Chemical Processing Equipment: The alloy’s corrosion resistance to aggressive chemicals makes it suitable for use in chemical reactors, heat exchangers, and vessels in industries such as petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and fertilizer manufacturing. It is especially useful in environments where sulfuric, phosphoric, or hydrochloric acids may be present.
Heat Exchangers: Hastelloy® 188 is used in heat exchangers in chemical processing plants, as it resists oxidation and maintains its structural properties at elevated temperatures in the presence of corrosive chemicals.
Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing)
Additive Manufacturing of Complex Parts: The spherical powder form of Hastelloy® 188 is highly suited for 3D printing applications, especially in metal additive manufacturing technologies like Selective Laser Melting (SLM) and Electron Beam Melting (EBM). It enables the production of complex parts and geometrically intricate designs with minimal material waste and high precision.
