Boron Nitride Nanoparticles

BN Nanoparticles is a chemical compound consisting of the same number of atoms as boron and nitrogen. BN Nanoparticles is not found in nature and is therefore synthetically produced from B, boric acid (H3BO3) or boron dioxide (B2O3). Until the early 1960s it was not possible to stabilize this material in the form of powders and hot stamped shapes.

Applications

Lubricants and Coatings

The hexagonal form of boron nitride (h-BN) exhibits natural lubricating properties similar to graphite. BNNPs are used as solid lubricants in high-temperature, high-pressure applications where conventional lubricants would degrade. They are commonly used in industrial machinery, automotive components, aerospace, and cutting tools to reduce wear and improve efficiency.

Composites and Advanced Materials

Boron nitride nanoparticles are incorporated into various composites to enhance their mechanical strength, thermal conductivity, and chemical resistance. These composites are used in industries such as aerospace, defense, and automotive for producing lightweight, durable materials that can withstand extreme conditions.

Electronics and Semiconductors

In electronics, boron nitride nanoparticles are used to improve the performance and reliability of semiconductors, transistors, and capacitors. Their ability to conduct heat while insulating electrically makes them ideal for use in microelectronics, helping to maintain stable operating conditions in integrated circuits and other sensitive components.

Nanomedicine and Drug Delivery

Due to their biocompatibility and ability to be functionalized, boron nitride nanoparticles are being explored in the field of nanomedicine. They can be used in drug delivery systems to improve the solubility, stability, and bioavailability of drugs. BN nanoparticles can carry and release therapeutic agents in a controlled manner, targeting specific tissues or cells, thereby enhancing the effectiveness of the treatment.

Nanostructured Coatings and Paints

BN nanoparticles are also used in the development of nanostructured coatings and paints for various applications.
